I beg to differ. Watching people fight in UFC actually spurs me into action. And watching many rounds of fights actually improve my own skills.
As for "Biggest Loser" well, watching fat people run marathons has inspired me, but I have yet to do anything about that.
So it depends on the program.
Watching contestants in shows achieve theirs goals will hamper your own efforts.
When people see others successfully complete a task (losing weight, for example), they unconsciously regard that achievement as their own and work less diligently as a result.
